2nd Trimester

Anyone have a corpous luteum cyst in 1st tri?

I am 7w1d, and I have a decent sized cyst on my right ovary (golf ball +).  Anyone here have this as well?  Can you tell me what happened?  My doc says not to worry, it is totally harmless, but of course I plan on doing th eopposite.  :)  Any stories/advice would be extremely helpful, thank you!

  • it's supposed to be there.  It nourishes the baby for a while.  It's totally normal, don't freak out.

  • I am pretty sure it produces progesterone and you need it until the placenta forms.

  • They spotted mine at the NT scan. They said it should be fine.
  • I had one at 8 weeks 5 days on the confirmation ultrasound and I just got my 20 weeks u/s this past monday and it was all gone:) You will be fine. It is supposed to be there to nourish the baby until the placenta takes over. DO NOT WORRY!
  • I had several dut to the use of fertility drugs.  Mine weren't all corpus luetum though, some were just plain cysts.  The OP is right, a CL cyst needs to be there it helps produce HCG, etc. in early pregnancy until the placenta totally takes over it's function.  Don't worry, it will clear up in the second trimester.  You may just feel a little uncomfortable and bloated but it's nothing at all to worry about!
