I'm miserable with hearburn. It never goes away. I've tried all the over the counter products. Nothing works. In my first pregancy I didn't get heartburn until the third trimested, and even then, it wasn't constant. Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy.
Re: Help! Remedies for CONSTANT Heartburn?
Ask your OB about Prilosec (omeprazole). It works really well... much better than any of the other OTC stuff, but you don't need a script for it. Just your OB's advice. Meanwhile, as a long-suffering refluxer, I have some tips that help me: pay attention to what you eat and see if there are specific things that are triggers (this might take 2 weeks to figure out); add an extra pillow to your bed to elevate your head at night; sleep on your left side (it helps gravity keep the acid in your stomach, and is the recommended pregnancy sleeping side anyway, so win-win); try not to eat within an hour or two of going to bed.
As for daytime burn, keep Tums handy -- at least you'll get a calcium boost while you're cooling your burn. Cut out your caffeine, if you're drinking any. Cut out your alcohol, if you're still having any. Drink lots of water, if you're not already.
Hope you feel better!
Great advice eyunger. I was going to say the same only b/c my uncle is a gastro and I worked in his office a couple of yrs.
It may be acid reflux, and you really do have to watch what you eat. I don't have a list of all the foods that could trigger this, but I'm sure you could find it online. Don't lay down right after you eat. Drink lots of water and no carbonated drinks.
