I have to say this because there have been a billion posts about products today...
Seriously, ladies, here's the thing about what you need to have as a new mom- We can't really tell you. What worked for me isn't necessarilty going to work for you.
-Read product reviews on BRU and Amazon and anywhere that you can find them!
-Ask your friends/family/bumpies about specific items. "Tell me about your stroller/highchair/pack and play" can be helpful, but again just because it works for me doesn't mean it's going to work for you, so take what I (and others) say with a grain of salt.
-Google for articles about product controversy and safety. Bjorn, exersaucer, bumbo etc. all have some controversy about whether or not you should use them. Know why there is concern and then choose to do what you want with that information... it's just like feta, choose to use or not it's not for us to decide!
-Try to relax and enjoy. Delegate some research to your DH/SO if you can! Why should you do all the work? You're already doing all the gestating!
Good Luck!
Re: Best Baby Products- From a Mom
However, keep in mind, I think they should have reworded their "ranking" system. "Best" really means, most expensive. One of the items they tout as an essential was a $164 bouncie seat... a bit over the top. Use common sense while reading that book, lol.
I guess I don't understand your point. Soliciting opinions on this board is pretty much the same thing as reading product reviews and asking your friends, isn't it? Just another venue for doing research.
I don't see any problem with asking for opinions about products. I give the side-eye to people who post and say things like, "My OB prescribed XYZ medication. Is it safe?" Like, strangers on the internet know better than your board certified physician?
But a stroller? Yeah, I think another mom would have a perfectly valid opinion.
I don't think she was saying don't ask for opinions on The Nest, I think she was saying that just because a bunch of Nesties and your friends really liked ABC stroller, does not mean it will work for your particular situation. It's great to get pointers about specific products but also carefully think about the features that are important to you - its not going to be the same for everyone.
I did not find this to be the case AT ALL with that book. I thought it was awesome at telling you which features that they charge you extra for are a load of crap and completely unnecessary and which products that the baby stores likes to push as "must haves" are completely unnecessary. Yes, some of their strongly recommended products were some of the higher priced items but they always explained why they felt it was worth the extra money. Plus, many of their recommendations were not the highly priced items - they did a great job at balacing price and functionality.
Exactly. Only you will know what items are going to work for your lifestyle and your baby.
