2nd Trimester

Movement questions sorta worried

Ok I am almost 21w pregnant i'm curious to know. People say that the movement feels like flutters, but honestly I have no clue what that feels like. Few weeks ago around 18w I was feeling like what was muscle spasms and they would happen around a certain time of the day last week was as much, this week I haven't felt anything maybe once and that was it. I don't go to the doctor till next week and I am starting to worry. Friend told me to go to the ER but I don't want to waste their time if it's nothing. Tried calling my doctor they are closed because its the University of Florida's homecoming. I don't know if i should page the on call person though.

Re: Movement questions sorta worried

  • I won't worry!  I'm 22wks and hardly feel anything. Had a dr app yesterday and all was well!  Sometimes you don't feel movement till much later.

  • Have you had you big u/s yet?  If you have an anterior placenta, it make take longer before you feel LO.  Also, movement was very inconsistant for me at around 20-24 weeks.  If LO likes to hang out and kick toward your back, you won't feel it.

As pp said, don't worry too much about it.  Just ask your dr.

  • Some one on here said poprocks and I think that describes what my lo feels like. Do you know the positioning of the baby? That could be why you haven't felt anything yet.

  • Movements do not feel like flutters but they feel like muscle spasms. I am ending my 22nd week.

Also, I find that what my baby movements feel like and what I expected are totally different.  I anticipated it feeling like a little punch from within, but that probably won't happen until much later.  The baby is so tiny now that and movements you feel to your tummyare probably him/her flipping around in there.

  • I started feeling movement at 16 weeks, however, this is my second so I knew what it felt like.  I wouldn't worry, it isn't uncommon to not feel much at 21 weeks.  You might be feeling movement and not realize it.
  • I never really felt the flutter thing either.  My early movement feels like tiny little taps down low (I could see where someone might describe them as muscle spasms).  With my son, my movement was totally inconsistent until at least 25-26 weeks.  I remember feeling a lot of movement around the 20-21 week mark and then I was home over Christmas (I was like 22-23 weeks) and for like 4 days I felt nothing.  I was secretly flipping out but out of town and didn't want to upset everyone so I just kept quiet about it.  By the time we got home the baby was kicking away again.  Honestly, I would not go sit in a germy ER this time of year.  I think you put yourself at more risk for picking up a virus hanging out in the ER all day than just trying to relax and accept the fact that movement is inconsistent at this point.  The baby is small so if they move just a certain way for a few days, you can't feel its kicks.

  • Mine feel like you are going over a hill in a car, or on a roller coaster - it's like a lurching sensation, and I haven't felt anything that I could say "yes, that was a kick".  I have an anterior placenta, and the U/S tech said that's why it doesn't feel as strong as other folks have said it does.

This LO has changed positions at all my Dr appointments that I am clueless to where it is my stomach is not hard yet.
