wow this makes me really mad.  I am white (I think I am...I was adopted).  My DH is black and we are very very happily married.  wtf????  How could anyone say this in public?  lol  I'm sure people think it in private (I'm not naive), but to make a stand like that.  Crazy.

i saw this on the morning news today. BF and i are an interracial couple and it struck a huge cord with us!  he looks hispanic but hes really half white/half jamaican. his dad has the heaviest accent, its so hard to understand him its like a mix of the jamaican roots and british. in person if he talks real slow i can pick it up but over the phone forget it!

stories like this break my heart.

I wonder if he discriminates against other couples based on religion, age, or # of previous relationships/marriages. He must have a marital magic 8 ball or something.

This is disgusting and has to be totally illegal...but than again it is the south.( I can say that I lived in the south!) I hope the couple fights  this decision to be nulled and then hauls his ass to court, in another state.

Honestly, I don't know if it is illegal... Is officiating weddings like working the counter at the local video store - where you have right to refuse service to anyone? I'm not sure. Is it illegal? I don't know. Is the guy an idiot? Yes.?

If this guy thinks my marriage won't last and my kids are screwed, then I feel better for it.  I would not want this guy rooting for me!  It's just sad that this kind of thinking still exists in pockets of the world.  I think our kids are the answer to showing people like him the real deal - soon no one will be any one race/ethnicity!

Yes, it's illegal!  They took it all the way to the Supreme Court in the 60s, because lots of states used to have laws prohibiting it.   And majorly screwed up.  They're thinking about suing, which I think they should, just so he can't do that to anyone else.

If he worked in the private sector, like a church or temple... he should have the right to refuse (not that I'd agree with him) but because he works for the government it's appalling.  What if they stopped provided social security benefits to interracial couples? Or stopped providing other services...

This should not be allowed to happen.

It was the first article I popped to when I got on today. It is completely without doubt insanity! My sisters marriage is interracial and her marriage has just as much chance of being a success as my own. AND little tid bit to him her kids are beautiful like most interracial kids are!

I just wanted to add that his "it's not fair to the children" argument is crap because in the article I read, his wife asked over the phone "are you an interracial couple" not "are you an interracial couple wanting to have children" Because following his own logic, if they weren't having children he would marry them. Liar. Also, he should spend more time finding out how the quality of life is for mixed kids- my husband has a great life.

For the record, I have never seen an interracial child who wasn't absolutely gorgeous.

I'm white.. my DH is from India. The only thing I'm concerned about is how am I going to handle having the most beautiful "interacial" babies ever. 

Give me a break.  That guy is an ass and should just put his KKK membership card on his front door.

I know, right.  Mixed-race kids are so cute, I have to stop from staring at them because I would be horrified to think the parents might think it's not cause I'm oogling their lil' cutie pie and instead juding them based on some archaic social 'rules'.

Yes, it is illegal.  Once you become a licensed provider for something (pharmacist, doctor, justice of the peace), you cannot let your own feelings decide whether you deny service or not.  Just like pharmacists must provide birth control, even if they personally don't agree with it.  I hope he loses his license!

There is no "ban" on interracial marriage since Alabama removed it from the books in 2000 (even though it had not been enforced in several years).  The legal question is whether or not the JOP has the authority to refuse performing the ceremony as a matter of his own judgement.  They could go to another magistrate and have it done with no problem.  Does his judgement violate the 14th amendment (which Loving v. VA dealt with)?  Damn right it does, but they will need to go to court to have the JOP's right to refuse service narrowed down.

I am so glad I live in Massachusetts!!!!!  I'm actually pissed off now!  I can't tell you how many beloved  biracial children I know!  Not to mention loved, cared for, and from wonderful homes and families......but they are gorgeous to boot!
