It threw me off when I realized that they make a vaccine for this now. I just figured that it was one of those childhood things that everyone went through. But kids don't even get it anymore!
That's awesome! I never had them either. I got the vaccine and broke out with shingles ON MY SHINS..grossest thing ever...and never went back for the booster.

I'm really torn on whether the baby will get the chicken pox vaccine or not. I sort of feel like getting the chicken pox is a rite of passage but at the same time I don't want to make my child suffer unnecessarily.

the only suffering I recall is my mom constantly saying "don't itch. don't itch. don't itch." I got ice cream, and that was pretty great.
How do you know you're immune? You're very lucky! i had them when i was 16 and it was HELL. They say it's worse the older you get, so i can't imagine having them now. Ick ick ick!
They did blood tests when I was pregnant with Henry and I had the antibodies. I was always terrified of getting them because I had heard that too - that they are worse the older you are. But yeah, apparently I am immune.
I remember when my childhood BFF got them her mom called mine and told her. My mama got me ready to go play with her right away and made me kiss her before we left! I got the chicken pox a few days later.

The only problem I have with vaccinating is that you have to have the booster every 10 years or so. They can be deadly as an adult so what if they forget to get a booster? Maybe the vaccine has changed but this is what I was told when I went to get my vaccine two years ago.

lucky! I've had chicken pox and shingles now.

Me either, and both my brother and sister had them as well.
I guess the older you are when you contract them the worse it is, I've had friends have them later in life and they were quite bad.

do you remember anything bad?

I had them when i was 6 or so. I don't really remember, but I have seen pics and they were EVERYWHERE.
I will vaccinate my kid.
We think DH is immune too, because both his siblings got it and his mom tried to get him to get it at the same time but he never did. Who knows!
Just FYI on the vaccine.
Both of my twin brothers got it when they were 8 or 9, because they hadn't had chicken pox yet.
They both got chicken box when they were 11.
I've heard stories like that from a lot of people. Apparently the vaccine isn't as preventative as some people say.
