After our u/s yesterday the check engine light in my car came on. I have a 2000 Chrysler 300m that I've driven for 5 years and I've never had any problems with it at all. It's been a GREAT car and was even driving great when we dropped it off at the shop yesterday. I love my car and we planned on keeping it until we have our next LO when I moved up to a minivan.
We found out we were having a boy yesterday and while we are so excited, it stinks that everyone we know that's had a baby in the last few years has had girls. My sister had a girl this past April and I was going to get everything (and it's really expensive stuff, she spent around $1,000 just on clothes) from her if we had a girl.
So yesterday we found out we would have to buy a lot more stuff since it was a boy (but that was fine, we are buying everything other than clothes gender nuetral). We were going to go shopping at the outlet malls while we are out of town this weekend and try to find some good deals. Now I'm afraid to spend money. I know I won't be buying anything from Coach for myself (I wanted to buy something I could use as a diaper bag).
It's going to cost around $2500 to rebuild the transmission and my car might sell for $4500 private party. The plan was for me to stay at home after the baby was born and we already cut back on so many things to save money. We don't have the money saved to buy another car yet (we always buy used and pay cash) and I don't want a car payment. It will kill our budget.
I'm stressed, crying and I have no idea what we are going to do. Is it even worth it to fix my car?
Re: Looks like I need a new transmission...
this is why iam carless. we had a 2004 dodge stratus and we loved it. but one day last year the engine light came on and bam needed a new transmission. it was going to cost more than the car was worth. we decided to sell it on craigslist and just not have a car because i live in chicago and bus/trains can take you anywhere you need to go. we kept the car on my grandmas driveway for almost a year until we finally decided to sell it. well turns out we sold it right before i found out i pregnant and it really makes me mad cause i would of much rather fixed it and not have a car payment then to get another car with a car payment, we have yet to buy anything but we will have to soon!
i know the stress this causes! just stay positive and know things will work out. Congrats on the baby boy!
keep your head up. everything will work out. these things always work themselves out.
