Pre term laboor

My bestfriend sister, tried getting pregnant for a few years and finally did IVF. We found out we were pregnant on the same day... She is having b/g twins... She went in for her GD test yesterday and check up and doc told her she was in pre term labor! She is 27.5 weeks... She is on bed rest in the hospital untill she delivers.. I feel awful............

How long can they hold off labor????

that's crazy! I had a PTL scare yesterday and they said they can often stop labor entirely but that doesn't sound like the case for her since they're keeping her at the hospital. I think it's a case by case thing though - but at 28 weeks babies have a fairly decent prognosis of surviving with minimal long term effects from what i was told last night at L&D.

You'd be surprised how long they can stop it.  They will probably start giving her steroid shots to help develop the babies' lungs.  She will almost certainly go early but usually they'll have a goal of 32-35 weeks and there will probably be some NICU time for the babies but it's so good that they caught it in time that I am sure they all will be fine!

There was a lady on that show "Deliver Me" the other day who went into PTL and had to stay at the hospital for a couple months, on bedrest... she went to term.
