2nd Trimester

Pack N Play

Alright guys, with the Pack N Play, which do you prefer...the kind with the little oval bassinett that sits on top? Or the bassinett shelf that spans the PnP?

And 2nd time moms want to chime in? :D Thanks.

Re: Pack N Play

  • We chose the Graco Hamilton PNP. It has the both the full shelf bassinett and the oval newborn napper along with the changing shelf. It's only $150; not a bad deal to me and get the best of both worlds.

  • I am not sure what you mean but I have not bought one in three years.  Ours had the bassinette over the bottom that was the full length of that.  She would lay in there and sleep. Then there was a top part to change her.  This PNP stayed downstairs and we used that to change her 99% of the time.  She slept in it like 3 times as an infant then we used it when she was a toddler and we travelled.
  • I had gotten the one that is in the pack and play

The picture below was from walmart $100

  • Our PnP will probably be LO's primary source of sleeping for at least the first 3 months. After that we will set up the nursery. (Currently have Roommates). So, would you guys say the newborn napper is a bonus? Do you feel comfortable letting your LO sleep in a PnP?
  • I got a hand-me-down PNP, it didn't have any of the bells or whistles- I am now getting a 2nd one and I really just want it to have the changing platform.

We had a real bassinet, that I love- I got it for $99 on smartbargains or overstock, and we had a handmedown moses basket that was also awesome- it could go anywhere which was great- dining room table, coffee table, sofa, etc.  Oh- and our stroller had a bassinet attachment so I didn't feel the need for anymore bassinets.

PNPs are great, but they are kind bulky when they are set up- they don't fit through doorways (in our house anyway) w/o being broken down, so you can't move them from room-to-room easily- something to think about.

  • This is our first, personally I feel better with the newborn napper b/c it's a snugger space vs. the huge bassinett. I plan to have the baby sleep in the newborn napper the first three months or so in our bedroom before moving him into his crib. Just a safer feel for me.

I had read this. >.< We are seriously short on space...have any of you looked at the Travel Cribs that Graco makes? Since the PnP is going to be mainly for sleeping in our room, I am wondering if this would be a better option. If you don't know what I'm talking about, this is it:

  • I had this one with dd and loved it. https://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10902869

I am getting this one with LO.

I have never used one with the napper. They can get pricey IMO. I just don't think I will need it because I have a vibrating bouncer.

  • We have the Chicco PnP and we love it.  The changing table is great.  There isn't a bassinett, the mattress drops when dc is big enough to graduate to the bottom.  It also has a nightlight, vibrate, song and remote with it!  Worth every penny!

How long do you think your LO will be sleeping in your room?

My DD slept in her bassinet until she was 4 months old- we didn't set up the crib or the PNP at all until after that because we had the bassinet and the moses basket.

I think that the smaller travel crib could be a good option for you & sounds like it's a little smaller for future travels as well.

LO will be in our room from EDD (March 20th) to August 1st. So roughly 4.5 months. After that s/he will get his/her own space.

I'm getting this one. It is $120 and has everything I need without overdosing on the cutesy-wootsy.

  • I like the Graco Hamilton PNP too. I think Graco has several different patterns and colors of PNPs that have the newborn napper and changing attachments. WalMart is selling one version for $125, I love the style regardless of patterns since we are team green so I will get it where it is most affordable.  I think I saw it at BRU for $160 and Target for $150.  I learned with BRU if you like something there check other places to make sure it's the best price.

  • I have the Chicco Lullaby. One of the reasons we chose this is that the bottom piece is not just slats of wood that folds up...it is thickly quilted so it makes it more comfortable for the baby (we travel to family a lot and so she used to spend a lot of time in this and we wanted it to be as comfortable as possible. At 2 years old she is just finally outgrowing it.

But we really like this model and it will be used again for this baby.
