Pregnant after a Loss

Registry Stress!! (just venting)

I did my registry early on, and thought I did a fine job, but I actually have 3 showers coming up in the next 2-3 weeks! (yikes) and I started with around 70 items and almost 30 have been purchased. (and of the rest there are lots of little things left).

My best friend is throwing one of the showers and had a few requests to "tell me to add more to my registry." I think the problem is all the "big" stuff was purchased - pack n play, carseat, stroller, high chair, etc. and people don't want to buy boring things like crib sheets or changing table pads (although we do need this stuff!).

I added a few more random things like hangers and bath/lotion sets, but I feel like I have way too much on there now! (89 items) And I don't want to keep adding things that I feel like I don't really NEED because I don't have neverending space for all this! But on the other hand I don't want to end up with 40,000 blankets so I figured I better keep a decent selection on there. I feel super greedy, but the fact of the matter is that the idea of all the "stuff" stresses me out and I wanted to keep it to a minimum!

I did not register for very expensive items like a breast pump or convertible car seat so maybe people will end up getting gift cards because I will eventually need those things! I never thought I'd be complaining about too many gifts...I guess I should be glad that's my biggest "problem" right now!

Re: Registry Stress!! (just venting)

  • I would not stress about adding more... people can be creative about the little things is they want to, or they will just ignore the registry completely (as a lot of people did for my showers.)

My parents and ILs purchased some of our bigger stuff, but most everyone else brought clothing that was not on the registry. We have a lot of little things that we will be purchasing and surprising, we did not receive one gift card at either shower!  If you do add things you need, don't count on returning them towards picking up the small things you need... we also did not get any gift receipts and BRU & Target require them.

  • you're lucky people are getting you stuff from your registry. my shower not even half the people got stuff from my registries, it was kind of a bummer. don't worry, you can always return stuff you don't want - BRU took stuff back that I didn't even have gift receipts for. so now I have enough credit there to get my video monitor!
  • I agree w/ the pp. If people don't want to buy off of your registry they'll get creative!

I find it a bit odd that your hostess is telling you to add more. The stuff you registered for is stuff you want and will use. You don't want to add things just because you feel you have to.
