prune juice for LO's consitpation-how to give it?

Doctor said to give Gianna 1 oz prune juice and 1 oz water to help her poop.  She hasn't gone since Sunday.  Can I instead put 1 oz prune juice in her bottle of breastmilk?  How would I do that? If not, do you suggest I give her the prune juice before I feed her to make sure she drinks it, or give it after I feed her?

Appreciate your advice!

Re: prune juice for LO's consitpation-how to give it?

  • I just make a separate bottle of prune juice and water and give it to her in between feeding times.  That is what works for us because I want to make sure she is getting the good nutrients in the milk but she is also full after eating so I don't want to risk a huge spit up. So I usually wait about 60-90 minutes and give it to her before she goes down to nap.

I am curious to see what others do!

  • Our pediatrician felt that it was necessary to give her the prune juice before the feeding. this way she drink all of it. I wouldn't mix it with the formula, i thought about doing this also but decided against it.

  • I added it to the bottle. I just made a smaller bottle (instead of a 4 oz bottle, I made a 2 oz and added an oz of juice) Doc said either pear or prune, they both do the same thing.
