That the CRV is going to go up on plastic, glass, and cans? Its in legislation right now. Our state borrowed money from the fund that pays for the materials you recycle, so now its short money. They are talking about doubling it. I hate California!
Ugh. Stuck here for....ever. Get to go pay my registration in a few days here at DMV - Only $180.00 for ONE YEAR for my 2003 Dodge Neon. That makes sense, doesn't it?
Gross. It's so expensive here. I just got our car registration- $247 for a 2008 Honda Fit. It was like $90 last time. Thank God we are moving in July. Goodbye 10% sales tax and all that jazz!

Bastards.
Arizona = $350. 1 Year. 2004 Tahoe. It sucks.
California is a GREAT place to visit....TERRIBLE place to live....

So jealous! Where are you moving to?
Maryland. DH has a job out there when he's done with his PhD.
I am praying now that DH never has to go back to 29 palms... or any of the other marine corps bases there...
Although, on a side note, I almost had to pay 168 bucks for my car(97 honda accord) registration for being here in Hawaii(I got out of it for being military and only had to pay 20 bucks)... So don't feel too bad California... LOL
That is insane. My SIL from texas seen our CRV and was freaking out. She was wondering what they charged her extra for and we had to explain to her what it was for.
We just bought last year, so we are pretty much stuck here too. Although I truly love Los Angeles.
California is absolutely one super expensive place to live. And the state budget crisis and "governator" aside, there is a reason for it. California is close to everything. We've got every type of terrain that exists. We don't get severe weather like tornadoes or hurricanes. The only thing we have to worry about in that respect are earthquakes every so often. Even though it is expensive and that part sucks, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Its an absolutely beautiful place to live.

I completely agree! I may be in the minority here - but I love living in Southern California...5 mintues from the beach...access to everything! We're are fortunate people.

See, I don't get when people say that the reason it is so expensive is because of all of the natural beauty and attractions. Those things are actually free. The ocean, mountain, deserts and all of that don't actually cost a thing! The reason it is so expensive is because the state has been poorly run for decades, constantly borrowing, and the money needs to come from somewhere.

Sure that stuff IS free, but that is a lot of what drives up the cost of living... the number of people who want to live here. It's in high demand. Not ALL areas of California... just certain areas. I live in the Sonoma County Wine Country... an extremely pricey area to live. A lot of girls here live in SoCal, another extremely pricey area to live in the state. My mom used to live in the Redding area, which is extremely inexpensive. It just depends where you're at. Yes, the taxes and other high state-specific costs are driven by how the state is run, budget wise. That part absolutely sucks and is ridiculous. But another way you have to look at it is California is not the only expensive state to live in. The coastal states tend to be pricier than the interior states, and not all of those states are run as shiitily (<---haha) as California is. So you can't blame the cost on just the government. Supply and demand, location, climate, and terrain play a huge part as well.

Word!
I was born and raised in California and never knew anything different as far as the cost of living here goes. Then I met DH, get married (he's military) and we get stationed in Virginia for 3 years. Virginia is a beautiful state and all but they got nothing on California, and now I realize why everyone wants to be here. DH practically had to sell his soul to get stationed back here, but we love it and make sure not to take a day of living here for granted! As far as the CRV tax goes, we just save all of our recyclables and get the money back!

We're pretty much stuck in CA unless DH wants to make a major career change (or we want to move to Florida which is NEVER going to happen).
I doubt we'll ever leave though as expensive as it is...all our families are here!
