You have to take one that your doctor prescribes (I believe it only has progesterone in it and not the estrogen... maybe it's the other way around). Not sure of what all the options are, but there are options. And if it helps any, I hear BFing will help you from getting KUed.
Breastfeeding ONLY helps prevent pregnancy if you're feeding on demand and ONLY sometimes. I wouldn't rely on it. . .even though I'm a good example of breastfeeding as birth control. (no period until 18 months pp)
Normally, if you're breastfeeding, you get the mini pill, but it has to be taken within 15 minutes each day and isn't as effective as the normal pill. You can also get an IUD. I don't think it is so much the hormones in the pill hurting the baby as they normally cause your milk to dry up.

This is NOT TRUE!!!! I have a friend who believed this and she had another baby 9 mos. later. Talk to your doc right before or right after delivery about birth control if you don't want another one right away.
I took the mini pill...no period for 12 months (when I started weaning ds). It worked the whole time until I had that period. I ovulated the when I was suppose to and surprise you're pregnant. That bc only works if your bfing, so be careful and take it on time each day. It had no effect on ds or breastmilk.

I would not rely on this! You can still ovulate while BFing, even if you don't see your period.
BC can lower milk supply in some people - it doesn't happen to everyone, but it's something that can happen. My OB recommended the mini-pill, but I just opted not to use any BC other than condoms. As far as I know, BC can't hurt the baby if you're BFing, but I'd check with your doctor on your options.
