2nd Trimester

Another car seat question

So the post below got me thinking. Someone suggested "make sure you register for a 2nd car seat base (or something of the sort) for the snugride".

My question is....do you need to register for TWO? I am registering for the Chicco Keyfit ....so will that one come with one and then we want a second for Dh's car? or does the original one not even come with a base so we need to register for two??

Re: Another car seat question

  • It will come with one and you'll want one for your other vehicle.

THANKS! First time mommy here, just need some guidance!

  • It really depends on how often your DH will be driving the baby. Will he be taking/picking up from day care (every day or once a day) etc.....It is a lot of work to install a carseat base every day.

Since I am a SAHM, we only have carseats for my car. Our rule is "he who has the kids has my car" the other person takes DH's car. It has worked well for us for the past 4 yrs. If we need to seperate the girls then we move one carseat to the other car but that's pretty rare.

It really just depends on your personal situation.

Ditto - however, I was shocked at how quickly DS grew out of his infant seat so we only used the second base maybe twice.  It's depressing how quickly they will grow out of all this stuff you (or others) spend money on.

OH....now that is something to think about. BC if we are only going to use it twice it might not be worth it. And in all honesty baby wont ride in dh's car all that much. Thanks ladies. Gonna take this off the registry.

So for the convertible car seats....you dont need a base, right?

Ditto this. We rarely, rarely ever need DD to go in DH's car unless mine is in the shop or something -- and when we do, it's not a big deal to move DD's car seat.

We were fine with just one base for the infant seat, and we only have one convertible seat (which I'm glad about, since Britax Marathons are around $250 a pop!).

  • No base for the convertibles.

Also, I wouldn't do it often, but if you think the infant seat will only be in your DH's car a few times, you can strap the infant seat right in without the base as well...something else to keep in mind.

Right. No base is needed for a convertible car seat.  And I am like the PPs and don't see the need for a 2nd base.  I am also a sahm and if we go somewhere with the kid we use my car.  Plus, the bases are easy to move from car to car.  It's not something I'd wanna do every day, but it's not tough if you need to do it.
