grandparent name ideas...please help!

Hi there - I rarely post, but figured who better to ask than a board of pregnant women?  My parents are Nana and PawPaw.  On DH's side, we have Grammy and _______.  We need a good grandfather name - anyone want to share?  All help is appreciated!  Thanks!

  • Pappie sounds good with grammy.  JMO.

  • grandpa? Pappy? pap?
  • What's wrong with grandpa?
  • my daughter calls my dad Appa (ahhpa is how it sounds) kinda like a shortened version on grampa. I love it and she came up with it on her own.

  • Mine were always Grammy and Grampa.

  • DD calls her grandparents what she decided they should be called.

They were supposed to be Grandma and Great Grandma, Nana and Grandpa for DH's mom and grandmother, stepmom and dad... They are Baba, Ella, Nana and Bumpa.  My mom and stepdad were supposed to be Grandma and Grandpa, and my dad was supposed to be Grump-pa.  They are Beebee, Gup, and Gum.

I think it's even cuter when they come up with it themselves.

So true, my mom and dad were supposed to be grandma and grandpa and she calls them, Mima and Apa

  • We have a Grammy & Poppy, a MiMi and Ampop (Mia shortened Grandpop), and a Nona and Poppop.
  • We say Grammy and Grampy, but DD doesn't call them anything yet...

  • My Mom and Dad are Grammy and Grampy to my son. (Well he doesn't say anything yet, but that's what we refer to them as.)

My niece gave my Mom the nick name Bina. No idea where that came from, we always referred to her as Grammy. She is 5 now and it stuck.

    Gramps?

I don't understand nicknames. To me PawPaw and Pops and PopPop and Nanny all sound dumb.

I had two Grandmas and Grandpas. To differentiate, I'd use the first letter of their last name. Grandma V and Grandma E.

    ditto

  • I had Grandma and Grandpa on one side, on the other the oldest grandchild came up with the names which were Nonnie and Boogie.
  • When I was growing up I had Nana (cultural) and Grandpa (although a few of us called him Grumpy - but that was a nickname only my brother and I could use and 1 of my cousins - there are 17 grandchildren on that side, but we called him that because he said my brother looked like Dopey in a pic with a pointy cap on) and the other side was my dads parents and they're Italian so they were Nonie and Nono.

Not too sure what our kids will call my parents, and my husband's parents are both deceased, but he has an Aunt and Uncle that are really big in our lives, so I don't know what we'll do for them at all. My husband grew up calling his grandparents Grandma and Grandpa - he only had 1 side.

  • We have Grammy and Pop for my ILs (DH's mom and stepdad).  They requested it and it fits.  My mom is Grandma and my dad is Papa ly(his wife, my step-mom will be Nana).  Not sure what my DH's dad and stepmom want to be called.  OY!  With divorced and remarried parents it's a nightmare, really.

My cousin's kids call her dad G-Pa...too funny!  Like a hip-hop name or something!

  • I'm thinking about going with Grammy and Gramps.
