I thought it was okay to have the baby swaddled while he/she slept but I just heard a report on my news that said it was one of the causes of SIDS. Have you heard this before?
I haven't heard that. I thought swaddling was supposed to be good for the baby?
However, I did hear about a report done in Britain about cosleeping today and SIDS. It said that if you cosleep on a couch or non-bed with the baby, the risk of SIDS is higher.

Yes, I went to a lecture on SIDS that my hosptial put on. They had a woman from the national safe sleep organization there. She said that if you are going to swaddle to keep the childs arms out. They highly recommend no blankets at all, but to use a sleep sack instead.
The reason they say do not swaddle is because little ones will break their arms free and have a tendancy to pull the blanket over their mouth which causes the rebreathing of CO2 which can lead to suffocation.
