Does your DC allow Halloween costumes?

My CWers said their daycares won't allow the kids to wear Halloween costumes to school. I checked with mine, and they're calling it a "Fall Festival" and allowing the kids to "dress up". What's your daycare doing?

Re: Does your DC allow Halloween costumes?

  • The daycare Nate used to go to did allow costumes.  They were really laid back about holidays and I think they used Christmas, Easter and Halloween openly there.  Oh, the horror of calling a holiday what it is!

  • Hmm...I'm not sure! DH's work is having a Halloween festival that Friday evening where she'll be wearing hers. Not sure how she'd do wearing it all day though. We'll see!

  • Oh, when the daycare did costumes last year, most parents either sent the costume with the child or sent a change of clothes.  Mainly they wanted to get some photos of the kids in their costumes & then they changed them into regular clothes.
  • Ashley is not in DC, but her preschool is not allowing costumes for the 2 year class. They are making masks and having a party, but we are not allowed to dress them in costumes. I asked her teachers about it and they said they let the 4 year class dress up, but not the 2s or 3s (b/c they are still a bit young to really "get" it).
  • Our center makes a day of it!  They all wear their costumes, every class has a Halloween party that parents are invited too, they hand out candy, and they have a pumpkin patch out back where each kid gets to pick out a pumpkin.  They also have a costume parade!

They also do similar things for all the other holidays.  I think it's great!

We are supposed to send them in their regular clothes though and they only wear their costumes for the party and parade.

  • We've been asked to send costumes the Friday before, they'll do a picture and have some crafts (like a mini fall festival since there are only 5 of them!).  I'll pick him up early for our office trick-or-treating event!
  • They do. In fact, they have a Halloween 'parade' through the hallways.
  • Nope.  I have DD in a Christian daycare and they do not allow any sort of Halloween outfits, costumes or decorations.

They are having some sort of fall festival though, although DD is too young to know what's going on anyhow.
