Parenting after a Loss

About ready to be done with BFing

This is my second week back at work and I feel like I'm about ready to be done with bfing. Pumping is just getting to be a big PIA for me. I can only pump at lunch and yesterday I only got 4 oz and then I left the milk in the fridge at work so she's getting formula bottles today. Most days we have to supplement with at least one formula bottle during the day because I can't pump enough. My supply is tanking and when I've been nursing her in the evening, she gets off the boob and is still hungry. I don't feel like trying all these things to increase my supply. I'm tired of having to watch what I eat because it might upset her stomach and honestly with the formula we've been giving her, she seems much less gassy than she ever was with my breastmilk. We're going out of town the next 2 weekends and I don't feel like having to stop and pump every few hours. I was hoping to make it to Christmas which would be 6 months but I guess I should be happy that I've made it 3 months. I had such a hard time in the beginning, I never thought I would make it past the first few weeks. Thanks for listening to me vent!

  • I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Whatever you decide to do.....it was great that you could bf for this long. Good job momma!

  • Sorry its been so hard for you.  Pumping is a PIA, I will agree with that, especially if you can only do it once a day.  I usually am one to say "you can do it" but honestly, if its causing you this much stress and it sounds like your work schedule is not conducive to pumping-I wouldn't blame you one bit for switching to formula now.  I think if I were you, I'd be inclined to switch too.  Happy mommy=happy baby.  If you decide to quit, remember, you BFed for 3 months, that is GREAT!  If I remember correctly, a lot of research says that the biggest benefits are in like the first 6 or 12 wks (I can't remember which).  Good luck with your decision.

  • I'm so sorry your having a hard time...I am too and know EXACTLY what you're going through!  It's not easy!!  Like pp said, at least you got to do it for this long!!  I'm in the same situation and I truly believe that after the switch we'll be MUCH less stressed out and able to enjoy being a mommy, guilt-free!!  Good luck and keep that head up!!  :)

  • Every week you've BF'ed is a feat so you should be proud of yourself.  I hear you have much more energy when weaning so hope that goes for you!
