Pregnant after a Loss

Just found this out about insurance...

Call me an idiot for not knowing, but I assumed I'd have to meet two yearly deductibles, since I'll be pregnant in two different years. (And I'm pretty sure the dumb insurance guy I talked to thought that was the case as well.) Well, I just found out that OBs bill everything after delivery so that you only have to meet one deductible. I was pretty happy to hear that and thought someone else might be too if they were also under the wrong impression.

  • You should deifnitely only have to meet one deductible.  I'm sure that was a ncie surprise to find out what you originally planned for was wrong :)

  • Yes - I was very glad to hear this news a few months ago too - mostly because my deductible is $5000 a year.  However - any blood work, labs, ultrasounds, and extraneous visits (UTI, bladder infection, yeast infection, anything that doesn't directly relate to the baby) will be get billed right away so those will count toward the deductible year they take place in.
  • Yes - I was happy to find that out! However I also found out that my insurance rolls over the last three months of the year if you paid any of your deductable during that time. So I will only have to pay a one year deductable either way since all my appointments are now in the last three months!

  • Ooh I was wondering that!!!  I've already started paying for my L&D - 4 easy payments of $65, lol.
