stupid question: keeping baby warm at night

Ok, so last night we had DD in footed, long sleeved PJ's with a halo sleep sack on and she still woke up with icy fingers and toes. What can I do to help her stay warm at night but not have blankets, etc in her crib?

Re: stupid question: keeping baby warm at night

  • I am having the same issues.  I had him in a long sleeved onsie underneath footed pajamas and wrapped from arms down in a light swaddle blanket and ended up putting a thin blanket over him.

    Didn't work.  He was cold.

I put him to bed at 8 and he was up at 9, 10, 11, 12, 1 (brought him to my bed), 2 (he wanted to go back to his bed), and 3.  At 3 I gave in and turned the heater on and he slept until 7:30.

  • Try a fleece sleepsack instead of cotton.  That's what Liam slept in last winter, and probably will again this winter.

  • stupid answer: keep the house warmer.

honestly, we use a blanket. we keep it at his waist-down b/c he sleeps with both arms above his head.

  • I'm having the same issue. He has been sleeping in long sleeve footed pajama's and swaddled in a Halo Sleep Sack with one arm out (otherwise we have meltdown city!) and his little hands and feet are so cold.

I wonder if babies just have crappy circulation to their?extremities like old people do??

  • I did read somewhere that cold hands/nose does not equal cold baby.  If their body is cold then they are cold.  Or if they wake up every.single.hour until you make it warmer :)

  • We had the same issue. Right now I switched her into a terry cloth like material sleeper with the regular cotton Halo sleep sack and set the heat to click on (upstairs only) if it got too cold. We also started opening her door at night before we went to bed so air could circulate.

I also went out and got two Halo fleece sleep sacks because they are breathable and one I had tried  (Carters) left her a sweaty mess. I haven't tried them yet but I am about to.

  • We're having the same issue. He doesn't want to be in a sleepsack anymore, but he won't keep a blanket on.
  • Keeping Natalie's temperature regulated is one of my biggest mommy worries.  Last winter we had her in a long sleeve onesie, socks and a fleece swaddleme.  Now that she doesn't use swaddlemes and won't keep a blanket on her, I've resorted to more layering.  Last night she slept in a short-sleeve onesie, long sleeve pjs and socks.  Now that the temp is supposed to drop low again at night, I'll start setting the heater to click on (upstairs only) if it drops below 68.  I'm thinking to starting to try to recover her up at night with the blanket in hopes she'll get used to keeping it on her -- right now though it's a failed attempt; she usually kicks it off within minutes of putting it on her.

  • We usually have DD in a footed sleeper (sometimes w/ a onesie underneath) and socks.  I do have the sleepsacks, but haven't tried them yet (can she still roll easily in them??)

And, even if I use a sleepsack, I'm not sure how to keep her hands from turning to ice.

Yep! Holly sleeps in one every night, and is definitely all over the place. She's usually standing up when I go in to get her up, so they don't seem to hinder her movement too much! :-)

Ditto - Liam gets all over the place in his, it doesn't get in his way at all.  I usually find when he's sufficiently warm inside his clothes his hands stay warm too.
