I've been having gall bladder attacks on and off for about 2 months now. (Maybe a total of 4) Well ever since Thursday, I have had them every single night. I have lost 6 pounds since Friday. Last night, I had 3 attacks and finally DH and I gave up and called the oncall OB, whose response was "Why are you calling me?". They don't want to do anything at all. I called my PCP today and was seen and the news is just simply frustrating. I will have an ultrasound tomorrow morning and IF I have gallstones, I will see a general surgeon the following week. HOWEVER, they will not do surgery until a month after Emmerson is born. If the u/s shows something worse than gallstones, I'll be hospitalized.
So they best they can do at the present moment is give me Loratab which I don't want to take because they told me it will sedate me and baby. I'm not willing to do that to her. I would rather be in pain, than to risk her for pain meds. I feel like a horrible mother because I'm scared to eat because of the pain. It's not like I'm eating hamburgers and french fries. I'm eating cereal or plain pasta. I just don't know what to do anymore....
Re: I feel like a horrible mother...
I'm sorry you're going through this. My cousin had it with her second pregnancy (and second mc... NOT related) and she said that it was so much worse dealing with it while pg. She had her gallbladder removed about 2 weeks after her mc, and felt so much better... I really hope you don't have to wait that long.
Maybe you could talk to your OB about delivering early, like at 36/37 weeks so that you'll be able to have the surgery sooner. If you're unable to eat or drink, it may be reason enough to deliver early. You'd still have to suffer until that time, but it would be better than doing this pg till 40 weeks and then having to wait another 4 weeks after that!
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh, geez. I feel so bad for you and wish I had some words that might give you some comfort. Maybe you could try just liquids for a bit? Broth, juice, etc? Perhaps that would give you some nourishment without inducing so much pain? (((HUGS)))
First, you are not a bad mother! It's not your fault you are having those medical problems, and I am sure your baby is still getting the nutrients it needs, also through your pnv. I had my gall bladder removed last year due to gall stones, and I remember the attacks hurt so badly before I had it removed. As soon as it was removed (and the surgery wasn't too horrible really) the attacks stopped, thankfully!
Like pp said, maybe if they get that bad you can deliver early to help you both out. If I stayed away from food with fat in it I usually did alright. So try and stick to little to no fat in your diet and that should help it. I;m sorry you're going through that, and I hope you get it figured out soon!
Good luck at the doctors tomorrow.
