Pregnant after a Loss

Hot dogs... yay or nay?

So what's the deal with hot dogs? I didn't eat them at all during my pregnancy with Isaac. I was in a jam last night and my only option for dinner was a hot dog, so I had one. They were steaming hot, thoroughly cooked... but today of course I feel horribly guilty.

I can't remember if there's much out there on hot dogs or not... probably because I rarely eat them so never payed attention :)

Re: Hot dogs... yay or nay?

  • I think they're probably fine if you just have one occasionally. They have a lot of chemicals in them and they aren't the best food even for non-pg people, but I don't think one is going to be a big deal.

I was craving hot dogs like MAD for a while in first tri... and I'm a vegetarian!!

  • I think as long as they are cooked, you're fine. My sister ate them with no issues. I would have had one on a few occassions this summer but they just didn't sound good at all. Guilt be gone!
  • MMM all beef, steaming hot with relish ketchup and cheese! mmm

  • My doc doesn't care as long as they're heated really well, and you don't eat 5 in one sitting.  She just said that moderation is key. I've had all of 2 during this entire pregnancy though. But now one sounds good!

wow that sounds really good actually!!!

  • I've heard as long as they're heated throughly they are fine. I found nitrate free at a local grocery store-I think Oscar Mayer makes them too so those are always an option. I was surprised at how much they tasted like regular hot dogs.
  • Hot dogs were one of the only things I wanted and could keep down early on so I ate them. I just made sure they were thoroughly cooked.
  • I've eaten hot dogs through my entire pregnancy. I actually ate one Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I normally don't eat them like that, but  one night was for dinner, the next day was leftovers for lunch, and Saturday I was totally not thinking!! I try not to eat them like that, but I do have one every few weeks. I have craved hot dogs since day 1!!!

  • I've had 3 so far - one was at a ballgame and two were at a cancer fundraiser event.  My OB said it's fine to enjoy one once in a while, just to ensure they are well cooked.
