TTC Conundrum

I'm going in for my yearly GYN visit tomorrow.  I plan on talking with my doc about the whole infertility issue, and what our plan of action should be.

My question/concern is that I'm starting a new job in two weeks.  Not quite sure about insurance yet.  Not quite sure about anything at the moment actually.  I'm starting to think that the stress of the last year (house related/living with the ILs, plus the fact that work has been hellish for the last nine months) has played a big part in my not getting pregnant.  I'm thinking we just relax for a little while, no drugs, no charting, no stressing.  Just letting nature take it's course.  And if nothing happens in six months or so, then moving forward with meds, whatever.

Thoughts?

Re: TTC Conundrum

  • I think that is an excellent idea!  That is just what our best friends did, and surprise...pregnant a month later!  Best of luck, and congrats on your new job.
  • I am taking a step back from the drugs myself. I just didn't like me on them. I can imagine the stress about everything hasn't helped you.

Do you need to think about FMLA too?

  • I think that is a great idea.  It's amazing how stress can affect your life, and getting out of those stressful situations may be just what you need!

    Good luck!!

  • FMLA is part of it too.

One of the (few) good things about the job I'm leaving was that I would have gotten 90 days paid mat leave.  But honestly?  So not worth the hell I've been through.

  • That sounds like the perfect plan!  But what happens should you get pregnant before you know your insurance deal or what will you tell your boss after having just started?

You know, one thing my mom always told me was that it doesn't matter how much money you make, it's how happy you are.  I totally agree.  If you hate your job, it doesn't matter what the benefits are from it.

You hear of this happen all the time that when someone relaxes and stops stressing that things happen for them. I think mentioning that you what your plans are with your OB will be beneficial, and will put your mind further at ease.

  • I think that sounds like a great plan. And I'm SO happy for you on the job front! Yay! Hopefully that's only the start of really good things in your life.

  • Sounds smart to me! And in re: to FMLA- I was technically at my job less than a year when I had E so I wasn't covered. But, MA has their own that I was covered under-8 wks vs. 12 but at least it was something. I would just check if your state has something like that.

  • I hate to sound cliche, but I got pregnant on an 'off' cycle.  We weren't even supposed to be having sex because of a large cyst on my left ovary.  The cycle before, I was on Provera and Clomid.  I charted and used OPK's daily.  What a hassle.  Then, I randomly got pregnant when we thought we were just being careful not to burst my cyst.  LOL.  A very similar thing happened with my friend/pastor who is due a month after me--and she'd been on Clomid a lot longer.
  • Makes sense to me. I remember you said this was your dream job, so it couldn't hurt not to be as aggressive with TTC while you get settled in. FMLA should kick in after a year, right?

  • You know what my thoughts on this are! I think.

Relax and enjoy the next several months. I think everything will fall into place as some things are already starting to. GL!

  • do you need to think about FMLA?  As in, if you're not at the company a year before giving birth, is your job secure?

  • I think waiting and letting nature take it's course is an excellent idea. The stress you've been under over the past year was enough to kill a ***, much less to prevent one from getting KTFU. I'd totally just relax and enjoy your new stress-free job. You don't know many people I've encountered that have gotten pregnant shortly after removing the main stressors from their lives.

I'd still talk with your OB...let him know what your plans are. Let him know that you're going to give it the old college try for six months or so and if no dice, then it's on like donkey kong. Like really on, nofuckingaround.

Good luck, Bubbs and enjoy the ride!!

  • Honestly, I guess it depends on if you REALLY think you can sit back and relax about it....I'm not saying you can't....I don't know you THAT well...I am just thinking of myself and not sure I could after trying for a year plus.

That said...maybe the new job, focusing on work and other stuff will help???

You know you...if you can do it, then yeah, I'd try to do it.  If not, then I'd use the opportunity to discuss with the OB the issues....easier than making an appointment a month or two down the road.

  • That sounds like a good idea to me.  Or at least, that's what I would do!  I'd wait, get my feet really grounded in the new job, check out the insurance situation once working there, and then pursue it.  And, BTW, CONGRATULATIONS on the new job!!!!!
