Our boys were born at 30 weeks and NEED this shot. Our insurance approved it but our co-pay in 429.00 per baby each month. That is almost 900.00 a month! We were approved Nov-March and live in Colorado. I am sick about this.
I called PAN and we are applying for a 1500 grant, but that will only help a little. The Synagis reimbursement line only offers help to those without insurance.
Due to the fact that the boys were so early, I quit my job to stay home with them. We are strapped financially and I don't know how to pay for this. I just know they have to have it. So, if I get the grant we will be looking at spending 3000.000 just this year and god knows how much next year.
What do I do? Charge it? UGH!
Re: So upset (synagis)
awww Im sorry! It's so hard because we all want to the best for our kids, but that is a LOT of money for anyone! I would talk to your pedi because if you are hibernating you are greatly reducing their risk. I wish I had some answers for you.
((HUGS))
deep breath! You'll be ok! I hope that you do figure it out and find a way to do what you think is best for your babies!
but, the synagis shot is not the be all or end all that I think we make it. My ds got them and still got RSV.
Good luck and i hope it all works out for you!
It sucks that you have to think about these types of things - that's a huge co-pay!
I would seriously sit down and really decide if the shots are something that you can do without making things worse in the long run financially.
Keep in mind that Synagis does not PREVENT RSV - it simply lessens the impact of the virus.
If you are staying at home with them and can be very diligent about hand washing and keeping your babies at home for ALL errands, shopping trips, etc. than I think you should give some serious thought to not getting the shots. You also need to make sure that no one comes over who is sick, no school-aged kids can come over and no large groups. It's hard to do but it's totally worth it.
I say all of that as a mom to two preemies (31 weeks and 24 weeks) who both got Synagis for 2 winters each. I have also spoken on behalf of Synagis/Medimmune to doctor's offices.
While I feel that Synagis is an important and helpful drug - if I were in your shoes than I would probably opt not to get the shots because that is a lot of money and a lot of hardship.
Good luck!
So sorry, since you got approved I would recommend trying help from the state and there is a post back that I made about a few numbers and suggesstions on the synagis web site...
