table foods ? and talking

Ryan started solids (with cereal) at 6m actual. he has always done well with purees.

he's now 10m actual (8.5m adjusted) and we're trying to move more towards table food. sometimes he does great, and sometimes he gags and then throws everything up. usually when it's a new flavor or it's a stage 3 puree (with some chunks, like applesauce).

he can take puffs, yogurt melts, cheese, waffles with no problems. but bananas, peaches, and a few other things cause him to gag and throw up.  should i be worried yet or do i need to just be patient?

also, he's not really imitating us (sounds or movements) yet and doesn't look at mommy if you ask where mommy is. he's babbling a ton, but not really imitating sounds. ok or no??

Re: table foods ? and talking

  • The talking sounds spot on for his age. At 10 months actual/7 adjusted, Robbie was babbling 2 consonants (mama and baba.. sounds, NOT words) and his therapists were very pleased.

Does he know his name? Or "no"? those would be expected before something like "where is mommy" Even though it's still early for that.

As for food.. don't ask me. My kid doesn't eat. *LOL*
Honestly, though, our OT said she doesn't like stage 3 foods at all. It's not a thicker consistency, it's puree.. pureee.. CHUNK.. and the kids get surprised with the chunk and don't know what to do.

ditto this is what I've also been told about Stage 3's.

I can't offer any advice as we're way behind you!

  • thanks so much for your help.

the info about the stage 3s totally makes sense. we'll just stop those! and hopefully he'll get better with the finger foods.

as for the babbling, he does know his name (both real and nickname!) and the word no, so i guess he's good on that!

    thanks ladies!
