Well, My cousin's baby is almost a year, and he only has 2 teeth. I don't think they really need a dental check-up for a while yet... maybe by 2 years. I think as long as you don't see any physical issues, and get them practicing with a toothbrush as soon as they can comprehend it, you can probably put it off until they're two.

Our friend who is a pedi said around 2 years old is when he recommends babies start going to the dentist. I also asked on the boards a while back and got the same response, so I'd guess 2.
