Parenting after a Loss

Boston Childrens Hospital

Hello Ladies!

It has been a very long time since I have posted anything. Caleb has been home for on month after being in the NICU for 2. He is actually 3 months old today.

He has born with esopageal atrisa and we will be traveling to Boston in 2 weeks for surgery. He will be there for another 4-6 weeks. I know the hospital is in the top 3 of childrens hospital but i cannot find any housing information close to the hospital. Does anyone know if there is a Ronald McDonald house or something similar near there?

Any help anyone could offer would be great thanks!

Re: Boston Childrens Hospital

  • I wish I knew the answer to this but I don't.  My nephew was in Boston Childrens Hospital for six months; but we live only an hour away so housing was not an issue.  I just wanted to let you know that the hospital is phenomenal; and I can't imagine a better place for your little Caleb to be.  I visited my nephew quite often and was so impressed with the nurses and the entire staff  (And the Au Bon Pain on the main floor! :)  I will be sending lots of thoughts and prayers your way for the surgery!

  • Not sure, but I bet you could call Ronald McDonald house and get some information. ?I would imagine that the hospital also has a family support line that you could call.

FWIW, my cousin's daughter was at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania) for over a year (on and off) receiving chemo. ?Her daughter was less than a year old. ?They lived in the room with their daughter (it had a bed area, full bathroom, etc. ?There was a shared family area in each hall that had laundry facilities, kitchen facilities, etc. ?Not sure if Boston Children's Hospital has the same thing, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I would suggest posting on the Boston board to see if anyone has additional information.

GL and prayers for you and Caleb. ?Keep us posted!?

Maybe you could email/twitter/facebook her for info about staying near Bostons childrens hospital. www.mycharmingkids.net If you haven't read her blog before you can read her past post to find out about her time in boston.

  • I would call the hospital...they may have other options as well.  I work at CHOP, and they have a Ronald McDonald House but they also have a program where employees can host families at their house while their kids are getting treated at CHOP.  There may be other options as well.
