Mom's with tummy sleepers - calm my fears!

Tonight is the first night DD is sleeping in her crib on her tummy.  She started taking naps the other day on her tummy, and that was the first time she's ever slept that way, but not at night yet.  I know she'll be fine, but, I'll be sleeping too, and not awake to check on her every couple minutes, lol.

  • If she got herself there, there is nothing you can do to stop it.

  • I was told that if DS can put himself on his tummy, then he'll be fine. When he started this, I was up many times checking on him but he was fine and slept SO much better!

This. When they can roll back and forth, the risk of SIDS is way down. Plus, there's nothing you can do to stop her. ?

  • If she got on her tummy on her own, she can take of the situation!  Not to worry Momma, she'll sleep better and I bet you will too (after the first night or two!)

  • She'll be fine :) my ds was around the same age when he started tummy sleeping, and I would put him that way because he would always roll to his tummy anyway.  I was nervous at first, but after awhile you realize they'll be ok, and you'll be able to sleep, too!

She did get herself that way.  And her head is turned so she can breathe perfectly fine.  I guess I'm just paranoid.

  • It's so scary when they first start sleeping that way.  DS has been a tummy sleeper since about 3 months old.  But he could roll both ways, so we have just let him do whatever he was comfortable with.  She`ll be fine...but feel free to check on her 100 times if it makes you feel better.  It'll get easier with time.

  • DD has been since 6 weeks old- before she could roll- we put her that way for survival purposes. The Back to Sleep campaign has done a great job of freaking everyone out about stomach sleepers when it's perfectly normal for babies to choose to sleep that way if they can roll over themselves! Your LO will be just fine.?
  • ds started sleeping on his tummy a month ago. I put him down on his back and within five minutes he's on his tummy. If they roll themselves onto their tummy there's not much you can do to stop them
  • Thanks ladies for the reassurance!  I'm sure it'll just take me a little longer to fall asleep tonight but I know she'll be fine.

  • My boys both turned into tummy sleepers (for the most part) when they were 6 months old and were ready to be done with swaddling. They've been fine!
