Baby is still measuring extremely large (88th percentile) and is estimated at 8lb9oz (could be off by a pound but the sono tech said she'd bet a lot of money that he's well over 8lbs). So, by my potentially scheduled c-section date of next Monday, he could be close to 9lbs. The tech asked if I was getting induced next week and I said I had a c-section on the books, and explained that he wasn't engaged at all yet, and she had this knowing look on her face like "yeah, he's not going to fit."
I have one more doctor's appt on Friday to make a definitive decision on the c-section. If he still hasn't dropped into my pelvis - which I'm told, even by a midwife - should have happened by now, then I'll proceed with the surgery
Re: Update from 2nd growth ultrasound
As you know, my story was very similar. My sono was pretty close to actual weight. Talk to women that pushed out 9lb babies and the lifelong changes caused by the feat and then thank God for c-sections (and healthy babies)! Best of luck to you!
Yeah, I have a gut feeling that the weight estimate is really accurate even though it makes no logical sense that he's so big. And I'd hate to be in labor for a day only to end up with an emergency-c so I know this is the right course of action. I'll feel better about it on Friday if he's still no where near my pelvis.
My doctor definitely mentioned shoulder dystocia which scared the crap out of me, as well as all the other issues (bladder problems, pelvic floor muscles not working, etc.) That definitely scared me.
Goodness me what a big boy indeed. I will be very interested as you must be to see how big he ends up?
How do you feel about the C section?
Absolutely terrified. But, I'd prefer to know in advance that it is as necessary as can be, rather than go through a bunch of labor only to end up with it anyway. I've gotten a second opinion about the whole situation too, and it seems as though the surgery is the correct route. However, I am still waiting for my appointment on Friday to make a definitive decision (even though I'm on the books for Monday afternoon). If he is *still* not engaged (not dropped into my pelvis) then it does make sense. I was told that 90% of babies are engaged by 39 weeks and if they're not, there's usually a good reason (ie. not going to fit).
