Ugh. Birth certificate problem

They gave us the application for the birth certificate at the hospital. I got the certified check at the bank and sent it in. A month later they send it back saying the price has gone up. Now I have to go to the bank again and redo the whole thing. Not really a big deal, but I guess I have to have that to get her social security card, which I need to start her college fund. Ah, the things I said I would get done on maternity leave. . .oh, well.

It's ok... we STILL haven't gotten Allie's birth certificate!!!  But we got her social security card after like 8 weeks I think...

How did you get the social security number first? Did you apply for it or did the hospital do it?

We already have Ella's SSN, but not the birth certificate (haven't gotten around to that yet).  When we were in the hospital we filled out a form and they mailed it in for us.

the hospital did it.  it got mailed to us about 6-8 weeks after she was born... we didnt have to do anything.

We also got DD's SSN without having her birth certificate.  The hospital applied for it for us.

ditto!! we got his ssn like 6-8 weeks after he was born and have yet to order a copy of his birth certificate cuz i keep forgetting about it and haven't had any need for it.

Ditto everyone else. The SS card just showed up in the mail at like 8-10 weeks, the hospital sends away for it. I went and picked up her birth certificate at a local office around 4 months.

When you filled out the form for the birth certificate, there was a check box that said "request SSN." The nurse pointed it out to me and said be sure to check it or a SSN will not be issued.
