Question about colds

My son has been coughing and sneezing for several days now.  It doesn't seem that bad and it's not bothering him at all.  He's still the happy little baby he's always been.  That being said, with all the craziness with the flu and such I'm worried it might turn into something worse.  Should I call his ped or just let the thing take it's course?  I don't want to be one of those moms that goes running to the pediatrician with every little thing.  Any suggestions on home remedies?

I would call the doc if he gets a fever.  My DS just got over the runny, stuffy nose thing.  We used saline drops and since I am a RPh, I gave him a litle sudafed but that is not recommended anymore for kids under 6.   You can also use a humidifier.  But since they are so little I don't think there is really anything else you can do.  My ped office will not give any kids under 4 any type of cold medication.
