Babies: 0 - 3 Months

working moms who BF

I started back full time (4+days) a few weeks ago and I have noticed that my DS seems to be nursing ALL night long. He is getting plenty of milk during the day so I know its not that he's hungry. Has anyone had this experience with more comfort feeding than hunger now that you've been away from him for a longer period of time during the day? Does this change or is this a phase?

  • Could be a combination of both.  I did notice DD eating more at night once I went back to work but I also think she wasn't getting enough during the day (she preferred playing from the bottle than drinking from it).

  • I usually pump, but when I started back to work, LO started nursing more. I usually offer, but he didn't really want it until I started spending time away from him.
  • He may be getting enough milk but he might be reverse cycling.

Do they self wean out of this stage? We've had very long nights for quite a while!

  • It could be reverse cycling, but DS went through a bad phase of waking up a ton during the third month. I WAH but usually DS gets bottles while I'm on the clock, so I knew it wasn't an issue of him being hungry, so I tried nursing more during the day to make sure it wasn't separation issues. Still nothing. We've just started improving over the last few days, so I'm hoping maybe we'll skip the 4 month wakeful. Fat chance I'm sure.

  • A friend at work warned me about this.  Her LO was STTN until she went back.  Pedi told her he missed all of their nursing time and was waking up to get to nurse since he was missing it during the day.  I'm not very afraid of this!
