Did it hurt when you got your IUD put in?

I go in on Monday to get it and just wondering what to expect...

Re: Did it hurt when you got your IUD put in?

  • The actual insertion of the IUD did not hurt for me (some slight cramping though), but the use of the speculum was a bit painful - although not as much as it was before I had a baby.

Everyone is different though, I know people who had more pain and discomfort with it than I did.

  • I had one put in a few years ago, and it was painful. I had taken some Advil before I went and then after I was done. I suggest this! They told me it was less painful for people who have had children before, so maybe that does make a difference.
  • It wasn't so much a cramping feeling for me, as a pinching kind of sensation.  But it's quick.

  • I had cramping for a few seconds and that was it. I had totally freaked myself out after reading stories on here, so anything was probably going to be better than what I was expecting.

  • I didn't think it hurt anymore than a pap smear. I just felt a pinch and it was over.
  • I'm also getting one put in on monday! I'm planning to take motrin before. My OB said it's much easier to put in when you've just had a baby.

  • it was a quick cramping sensation....be sure to take tylenol an hour before you go... it was nothing compared to the contractions i had a few months earlier...lol
