Mom's of boys - need gift advice

Friends of ours just had their baby boy and we would like to send a gift but I am not sure what to get.  I usually have great ideas but I am at a loss.  I searched, but they do not have a registry and they live in Chattanooga, TN if that makes a difference.

So, my question to you lovelies is: what is a gift that you received that you absolutely love?

gift cards to bru, gap, department stores are always great

gifts i use everyday - breast pump, stroller, pack n play, exersaucer, diaper bag

other gifts that i really appreciated - baby bjorn (or similar carrier), pretty burp cloths and blankets, diapers

I LOVED the Carter's stretchy blankets.  They made the best swaddle blankets.  Go get one of those and some matching gowns (they were also the best!).  Maybe get the fleece since it is coming into winter.  Carter's has the cutest gender specific clothes.  I'd go that route!

NOT FLOWERS!!! These were the worst thing to transport from the hospital.  I would say either a Boppy pillow (breastfeeding or not - DS loves his)...or a Moby wrap would be great too!

DS loves his glow worm. That is the best gift. We liked books, too.

Aside from necessities, I can't really think of anything we got as a gift that stands out. It was mostly clothes or toys he doesn't really use.?

However, we bought him a Fisher Price Seahorse (it lights up and plays music) and it is fantastic. I would highly recommend it as a good gift, and it's only $10. ?

The Moby.  Or a gift bag with diapers, wipes, baby shampoo/wash, etc... you can never have enough!

what I intend to make for the next person I know that is having a boy is 'manly' receiving blankets - like with flame fabric or skater fabric and stuff... none of this 'kittens and puppies' crap my son has to deal with! lol...

skip the peepee teepees - they're useless and you'll only get poo on them.

cool hats and vests? a bow tie?

don't buy baby powder - its dangerous for babies to breathe in.

Ditto my Fisher Price Seahorse.  I also liked the Aden and Anais blankets a co-worker got me. DS also LOVES his Baby First Elmo that my mom got him over the weekend.
