Recommend your camera!!

DH has said for Christmas he will be getting me a new camera. I LOVE the Canon DSLR but DH is saying it is a little more than he wanted to spend and that he would think about it. Now I am trying to research other cameras just incase. A friend in my moms group has this camera and I love it and she is able to get some great pics so If I can't have the dslr I want something comparable but a little bit cheaper. Any recs?

    I'm about to get a Canon XS with the kit lens.  from what i've heard and seen and read (i'm making myself crazy reading photography forums), its an awesome camera.  it just doesnt compare to a point and shoot.  if it makes things any better, i've found some really good deals on the rebel XS.  let me know if you're interested

    i've had a point and shoot sony cybershot 7.2 mgpx and a kodak easy share.  the sony took way better pics than my kodak but was still never that crisp look that you see with a DSLR.
