Is there anything I can be doing or giving her for a cough? She coughed a lot last night, it sounds like there might be some phlegm but not a ton, also runny nose
I would use Vicks Baby Rub, a humidifier, and make the bathroom steamy and hang out in there for a minute if you can (I know it's hard with a mobile little one to keep them in one spot!!). When DD has a phlegmy cough I usually pat her on the back whenever she's sitting in my lap (not too hard but not too light either) trying to help break up any phlegm and get it moving out!! HTH
My dd's has had a lot of issues with coughing the last few months. Our pedi said she is too young for cough or cold medications, but she did put her on 1/4 tsp of childrens zyrtec once a day and it seems to have helped a little...at least with the runny nose. She said sometimes teething can cause congestion and runny nose, as well. We've also tried saline drops and a cool mist humidifier with little change. I know that's not much help, but I guess I'd say if it persists or she gets a fever, I'd get an appt with your doc to see if anything else is going on..upper respiratory infection, ear infection, etc. b/c my dd has had those issues as well, even when it just seemed like a simple cough.
I agree with the above suggestions. Also, be sure to keep her hydrated, and use a nasal aspirator and saline as much as possible to get the mucous out of her nose. Hope she's feeling better soon.
We usually do Baby Vicks Vaper Rub on the chest and bottoms of the feet with socks on (not sure why or how it works but it's works for us twice now). Humiderfer (some you can actually pour liquid vapors in which helps). Ditto steamy bath. It will usually pass in a few days to a week or so. GL
