DD's signing makes me laugh

Tonight while walking back from the playground, DD and I walked by some wannabe rapper who was rhyming along to his iPod about his "pocket full of cheese." DD got a big smile on her face, ran over to him, put her two little hands together and signed "cheese!" I love it!

That's really cute! I love when dd signs "baby". She just folds her hands together and rocks them back and forth.

DS hasn't picked up on any of the signs we use at home, but I know they do some at daycare too. Lately, whenever I say "birdie", pointing to one in a book, he does this little one-handed sign that looks like "Whoopty-do, Mom!"

Sometimes they improvise signs.  Like DD does "diaper" by patting her chest.  It's really consistent, so we just keep doing the real sign, but accept her version.  DD can do 32 signs now.  Our most successful tool were the Signing Time DVDs (Rachel Coleman).  After watching those with us once per day for a month, she exploded and could do everything in volume one and two.
