Cleaning Products

Has anyone bought new nature friendly cleaning products? I've read that you have to be careful which cleaning products you use because of the chemicals. I've suddenly got the urge to clean my house from top to bottom but I dont wanna inhale anything that would be harmful for the LO!

Re: Cleaning Products

  • I just make sure that the area that I'm cleaning in is well-ventilated and have cut down on how frequently I use "harsh" cleaning products...I use a lot of vinegar.

  • I plan on using up the regular ones that I have and then making my own from now on. Vinegar + water works just as well as most everything else and is not bad for you.

For your current situation, I say just go ahead and clean, but keep your house well-ventilated while you're doing it and don't breathe anything in.

  • I use natural products anyway.  The majority of my cleaning is done with castille soap, tea tree oil, baking soda, and vinegar.

The only commercial cleaners I use are the Method counter sprays.

You don't need to change anything, if you don't want to.  Just wear gloves and make sure you're in a well-ventilated area.

Remember, stuff on the market that is sold as "natural" doesn't really mean anything.  There aren't regulations on using terms like that to describe a product, so you can still have harsh chemicals in those products as well.

Just don't sit around and huff bleach. ;)

  • I use a lot of vinegar, baking soda, dr. bronner's soap (so many yummy scents,) Bon Ami and Oxyclean.  If I see some 7th Generation cleaner on sale I will buy it, but I have tried to switch over to all homemade concoctions.

It's also great to get all of the really nasty stuff out of your house before the baby comes- I feel much more comfortable bathing my DD in a tub that I know wasn't cleaned using toxic cleansers.

  • Mrs. Meyers is my favorite brand for cleaners.  They make everything from cleaners, to air fresheners, to laundry detergents and dishwashing soaps, to lotion.  Seventh Generation is a great brand too.  I also use baking soda and vinegar to clean sometimes, but I really hate the smell of vinegar!
  • curious about this too - we have a small bathroom with NO windows or ventilation and it really needs cleaning... I usually use the method stuff but even that is a stong smell... thinking about baking soda and water...not sure how well that would work though.
