I had an irritable uterus with DS, with threatened pre-term labor starting at about 25 weeks. (I had him early for an unrelated reason, however -- I never actually went into labor with him.)
Did any of you have an irritable uterus with #1 but not with #2, or vice versa with #2 and not #1? I'm hopeful that the condition was just a one-time thing with DS, not a chronic condition. I'm worried about trying to chase him around while pregnant with #2 if I have irritable uterus again.
TIA.
Re: XP: Any of you have irritable uterus and two+ LOs?
GREAT question! I had the same thing and wonder the same. The timing was exactly like yours--was on terbutaline for the remainder of the pregnancy--ended up going late and then had to be induced! Go freaking figure. I'm staying away from terb this time around. Did your cervix dialate early?

Notes:
I never dilated, no. I was 80% effaced and soft at my last appointment (three days before DS was born via emergency c-section after going in for decreased movement and they discovered DS's heart rate was spontaneously dipping for no reason), but never dilated.
I would talk to your doctor about it. Right after I had DS they said it was unlikely that I would experience PTL or as they called it with me preterm contractions since I did not start dialating till 35 weeks.
My original diagnosis was a very small placental abruption, after 10 weeks of constant contractions, my doctors decided it was highly unlikely I had an apruption, and figured I just had an irritable uterus.
Fast forward 12 months and I finally go to the doctor for having the worlds worst period cramps. My doctors decided that given my preterm labor history and my very painful periods (a lifelong problem) that I process proglastins improperly. My doctors feel that I will most likely have preterm contractions again, probably starting earlier and that I will most likely need to be medicated again (procardia/niphedapine). I will also not be able to nurse more than once per day as nursing makes my cramps worse (they typically permit nursing throughout pregnancy).

So glad you asked this... I'd been wondering the same thing.
I had the same diagnosis, after being hospitalized overnight at 25 weeks. The contrax were every 3 mins on the monitors (dilated a "fingertip"), and didn't respond to IV fluids or rest at all. My OB felt that based on the most recent literature, the meds really aren't useful... so the contrax continued (at least 10/hour... ugh) for the next 14 weeks. I had regular cervical checks but no more dilation until I jumped to 3 cm at 36 weeks, then Lyla was born at 39.
So everything worked out, but the entire last half of my pregnancy was so freaking stressful... I'd prefer to avoid that the next time around. There is another nestie (Auslyn) who was going through the same thing, who is pregnant again, I think... so I'll be anxious to hear her experience!
