Brushing teeth help

My DS used to like it when his teeth were being brushed.  Now he doesn't want anything to do with it.  Anyone have any tips or tricks to get him to open up to get his teeth brushed?

Re: Brushing teeth help

  • DS always wants to brush his teeth with DH so I brush his teeth for him real quick and let him scream about it to make sure they get clean. Then I give him the tooth brush and he sits in the mirror and DH say's brushy brush and he sits there and makes brushing movements. It's all about him doing it himself these days.

  • DS and I "take turns" brushing his teeth--we each hold a toothbrush--keeps him occupied.  We also say "Ahhhhh" VERY loud--he thinks it's funny.  GL!
  • I'm having the same trouble.  My DS will put the toothbrush in his mouth, but won't really brush.
  • I just let DS brush his own teeth.  He doesn't do a great job, but they aren't permanent teeth.
  • My DH holds DD and I have about two seconds to brush her teeth before she screams, shuts her mouth, and reaches for the brush to do it herself.  I do as much as I can, then let her do it for a minute.  Between the two of us, they get clean enough.  If you alternate trying to clean just the top or just the bottom teeth in those few seconds, at least you know they get pretty clean every other day.

  • DS "helps" DH brush his teeth.  He'll let his Dad brush them as long as he can brush his Dad's.  Works for us.
