Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Formula feeding newborn

MY SIL just had a baby girl one week ago.  She is formula feeding and the baby has been taking 4 ounces at a time since 4 days old.  Does this seem, like a lot?

I BF but only for first few weeks.  DD is 3 1/2 months old and eats 6 ounces at a time. Just curious.  TIA

Re: Formula feeding newborn

  • How often is she feeding her?  I didn't start FF until DD was 4 weeks, and then she only took 2 oz every 2 hours.

  • It does seem like a lot, my lo's started out with less than half an oz, at 3 weeks addy takes about 2-3oz. One way to tell if it is too much is if there is a lot coming back up after the baby eats.
  • I FF and DS took 2 oz every 2-3 hrs for the first 2 wks...so yes this does seem like a lot to me.
  • ethan was only having 2 oz every 3 hours at that point.  he wasn't at 4 oz till about 6 weeks.  but i know all babies are different.

  • Marley is 2 weeks old and has 3oz every 3-4 hours or so.

Why so worried about how much her baby is eating? Obviously it's working for her and LO. Every baby is different. Confused

  • When we left the hospital they told us 1.5, we are just at 3 oz now.
  • I feel like my baby was at about four ounces pretty quickly.  Then again, it was about four ounces every four hours, not two or three.  I was shocked how fast she wanted that much, but she was still hungry after two ounces and then three.  So it was at the end of the first week or week and a half.  Now she does close to six ounces every four hours.  Oh, and she doesn't spit up, so it isn't too much.
