We are taking a 12 hour road trip this weekend so I'm looking for good ideas of toys/games etc. that will help keep my 3 year old entertained on the long drive.
My DS has a book of Coloforms that are "The Hungry Little Catepillar" theme (one of his favorite books). They keep him busy forever. We also have a small Melissa & Doug whiteboard that is a chalkboard on the back. He loves that. I have some books that I hide so that he only sees them on car rides so they're still new to him. Stickers also work well. When we get bored, we play "I Spy."
dd loves her travel magnadoodle... coloring (I bought colorwonders, but the color appears too slowly for her, so we use the travel clipboard for drawing on paper)... One fun thing (esp when driving through the carolinas when people have furniture tied to the tops of their cars) is guessing what things are... hunting out colors , "okay, let's look for something red!" ... we sing some.... most trips we do not use any kind of dvd player... this last trip, I drove alone for a funeral and was really "on a mission" to get there for my family... so they watched the dvds. but we have driven many times and have not pulled it out at all... we just keep them busy when they are awake... stop for an hour for lunch and find a spot for them to really run and burn energy... also find hotels for overnight near spots they can run. Plan for many potty breaks... we brought the little baby bjorn potty for potty breaks just in case... I did have to use it a few times.
