So baby # 2 may be arriving as early as November (I am high risk and since I delivered DS at 34 weeks the doctors don't think I will make it past 36 weeks) and we are transitioning DS into a new room and big boy bed (twin bed) this weekend. Furniture is being delivered Saturday and we are going to send DS to my in-laws while it comes and DH is going to get the room together (hang pictures, make the bed, etc). Once it is done we will bring DS home and make a big deal out of his new room and when he sees it I am positive he will get excited.
So my question is any tips on getting him to sleep in the bed that night? I am hoping for any easy transition but I know that it will probably be a bit of a struggle. I am banking on a couple of weeks without sleep but I guess you never know right!
TIA for any advice!
Re: Transitioning DS to big boy bed and new room this weekend
We moved DS to his toddler bed this weekend. He can climb out of the crib and pack n play, and has been sleeping in a toddler bed at daycare.
It's gone pretty well so far. We do keep his door closed. His room is upstairs and I'm afraid he'd try to climb a gate if we had one there. At any rate, we keep the door closed and I made extra sure to check his room for anything harmful.
What has worked best for me is rocking him to sleep. I tried putting him in the toddler bed and trying to get him to stay there until he goes to sleep, but he wouldn't stay in it. We have had one night so far where he got up twice. The first time I rocked him back to sleep. The second time, DH went in there, put him back in bed and rubbed his back until he fell asleep. It's easier for DH to get him to stay in there, he's cling-ier w/ me.
So, I would be prepared to get up a couple times and maybe have to hang out in his room until he goes back to sleep. All in all, it's been a pretty easy transition for us. However, he has yet to nap in there. That's a whole other ball game.
