Vegas Baby!!

So we are going to Vegas in Feb. and I am super excited to have a week with just DH and I and possibly some friends. However I have been doing some research on where to go eat, get some drinks, what shows to go see, etc... Any recs? For the more popular restraunts did you make reservations in advance before you left for your trip? TIA!

Re: Vegas Baby!!

  • I recommend staying at Bally's hotel. It is across from the Bellagio, and you have a great view of the water fountain show from your rooms without paying the Bellagio hotel costs. :)
We often ate at Caesar's Palace because they had a HUGE buffet with food from all other the world.?
I recommend going to see "Show Girls". It is a little risque (some nudity), but really awesome.?
    Have fun!?

We are staying at the Wyndham Desert Hotel through my parents timeshare so it is even better that it is free. However it is right off the strip so it works.

  • Free is always good!
Especially with the cost of food in Vegas. Most places have buffets, and each buffet meal is about $20. So, you eat $20 at breakfast, $20 at lunch, $20 at dinner = $60 a day.?

I heard it can get pricey so we are hoping to cook some where we are staying. Our room has a full kitchen so we plan on heading to the store to pick up a few small things but definitely plan to do our share of eating out. Probably do lunch at the hotel and breakfast now and again.

  • We're not gamblers, so no recs on casinos.  If you can fit it into your budget, go to a Cirque du Soleil show -- they're all amazing.  For food, we really like the buffets at the Bellagio and Alladin, and for pure Vegas excess, get one of the oversize novelty strawberry daquiris at Paris -- they serve them in a giant plastic Eiffel Tower.  Klassy!  There is cheap food around -- we used to go to a cafe in the Mirage (can't remember the name) for lunches and such.  For not so cheap, the filet mignon at Mon Ami Gabi (Paris Hotel) was fantastic. Have fun -- I'm jealous!  We haven't been to Vegas in years.

Smart idea! We had a kitchen too, but was all about eating out. We stayed for 6 days (WAY too long), and was short on cash the last day. I remember discovering a Subway, and was all happy until I saw the subs cost $8.00 each.?

****One more thing: Play the Wheel of Fortune slot machines. We won $50 on the first try, and $400 the second try (only put in $5 total). ?

  • We ate on a budget when we were there last and found some great deals in the mall that is connected to Planet Hollywood (I assume it is still there even though this was 4 years ago). There was a restaurant (can't remember the name, sorry!) that had $5 you call it (and drink, any brand) drinks practically all the time and they had a $5 lunch menu and a $10 dinner menu- the food was actually pretty good! There was also a mexican restaurant in that mall that had a breakfast special for $4- mexican hashbrowns, eggs, toast, coffee. For dinner we ate at a nicer Mexican restaurant in NYNY that wasn't much more than an Applebees or something. Our splurge night out was at Mandalay Bay- a restaurant that is still there called Border Grill- I still didn't think that was too bad ($20 entrees)

For stuff to do- we were content just visiting all the casinos since we hadn't been there before! Also downtown is worth visiting. We took the bus. That was another "splurge" night for us- we went to the Californian casino and ate at Redwood bar and grille- it was like an old school steak house. Porterhouse for $20.

We are staying for a full weekk but hopefully can keep busy. DH is worried about getting short on cash as well. I know one day we will be going to the cup race, hoover dam, and we were thinking about trying to get tickets to the price is right. We would love to go out to the grand canyon but I heard it is a long drive and that is not my idea of fun!
