I think it's time I busted one of these out. Not too sure what's age appropriate, but I found one with a bunch of pictures instead of words. I have the easy things. Brush teeth, brush hair, put clothes away, clean up toys. I am thinking of doing like a sweep after dinner. He likes to sweep, I don't know if that's too much?
Re: chore chart?
My kids had regular "chores" at around preschool age. We didn't use a chart, but when I make my morning "To Do" list, I would make separate lists for the kids.
When my kids were preschool age, the list might be:
--get dressed
--brush teeth
--feed fish
--one other reasonable kid chore like: swiffer bathroom, pick up toys in living room, put silverware away, put books on bookshelf, pick up all clothes in bedroom.
I tried to keep it to about 4 items a day.
Now, for my son who is 5, his list might be:
--get dressed and brush teeth (note how I smoothly combined these into one item!)
--pick up toys in living room
--wipe down counter in bathroom with windex
--put away silverware and pots and pans
--help mommy unload groceries and put them away
--play Super Paper Mario for 30 minutes
--help mommy make brownies
I always put the fun stuff on his "to do" list at the bottom so that he has a goal to work toward. I let him check off the items and we work on pre reading skills when we go over the "to do" list in the morning.
