My FIL is a pastor. We used to attend a church that was pretty big. I wouldn't label it a mega church, but we had two services and at one time three. My FIL used to be an associate pastor and pretty much was in charge (not control) of everything but the finances. My FIL and MIL live in a small home, drive used cars into the ground and don't have much money at all. They are still paying off medical bills from their son who died of cancer 9 years ago. He was basically given a seed church off the big church last year. FIL is perfectly content with his ministry.
Meanwhile, the senior pastor has built two mini mansions from scratch and at one time lived in a mansion in the city. He drives a huge truck and his wife is always wearing the latest clothing styles. Senior pastor has two sons who are "pastors" who recently dropped their own churches- (one of which my FIL picked up,the other fizzled into the ground) to come work for dear old dad. They spend 40 hours a week doing construction and maybe 2 hours a week if that at the church and they get paid a full pastoral salary.
If you want to talk about corrupt, this is it.
