Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Moms of Boys

Does your DS act totally crazy most of the time? Like they can't sit still and they move from one thing to the next constantly?

I just went to daycare to participate in "circle time" with DS and his classmates (all parents were invited). All the other boys were out today so it was just DS and the girls. all the girls listened and participated, but my DS was yelling at me to pick him up, then he wanted to get down, then he wanted to run across the room, touch the book they were reading, touch everyone else, etc, etc.

He just learned to walk a month ago, so I don't know if it's his new-found mobility, or if boys are just more active, or my kid is a crazy man? Thoughts?

Re: Moms of Boys

  • Personally, I just think boys are crazy!  Wink  DS has about a five second attention span and just never stops moving.  He keeps me on my toes for sure.

  • DS will sit and play with a toy, but he also just learned to walk last week so he does bounce around alot still. I think its the new found mobility.

  • It gets easier! My older son is great at arts and crafts and quiet play, but it takes awhile. My youngest - just learned to walk, and watching him will literally make you dizzy. From one object to the next, walking in circles, up and down - crazy.

  • Yep, my DS is absolutely nuts.  He's not walking yet, but I can just imagine what he'll be like when he is.  He's currently just cruising, but he's always panting because he's racing back and forth, crawling here and there, trying to climb everything.

  • Just crazy!  Gabe started walking at 10.5 months and has been crazy before that.  My nephew is 2 and exactly the same.

  • I do think it's a boy thing.  Most of the kids in DS's daycare are girls and I can always see a difference in their 'play'.  DS is a pretty mellow kid, but his play is a little more aggressive than the girls and he also gets into these tizzys where he just gets really worked up and over stimulated (funny these times usually happen when he's with my MIL).  My friends with boys all comment on how physical and all over the place they are.  I'm sure his new found mobility is also playing a part though.

  • Yes, my son is crazy. He just runs around non-stop all day and has the attention span of a gnat. The only time he is sitting still is in the car, and even then his mind is still going a mile a minute, pointing out all the trucks, cars, trees, birds, flags, etc. I love it! He's got some major personality.
  • DS acts like that at home, but not when we go out.  He is more of an observer.

  • YES!  That is the big difference between boys and girls that I have seen (most not all).

The only time I can get DS to sit still is when Kung Fu panda is on.  So yes we watch it daily usually before bed or right when he wakes up so he relaxes.  Otherwise he is at the  bathroom door, then the back door, then the couch, playing with a ball...He's like lightening, all the sudden he is somewhere else.  And he doesn't even walk yet (God  help me).

  • Absolutely. Most of the babies in my nestie 'mom's group' and girls.  And for the most part, they will sit calmly in their strollers/high chairs/mom's lap and chill.  If we're playing inside, they'll sit with a toy and play nicely.

All the time my kid, and the one or two other boys will be running around throwing things, pulling the dog's tail, trying to bang on the computer etc.

I wonder whose kid this is on a daily basis  :)
