pregnant?

I have taken two tests and both are positive but it really hasnt sunk in yet that it was a positive. is it possible to be a false positive? I have my first appointment to confirm on October 6th. I dont understand though why it is taking so long for the appointment? If i am correct iw ould be around 4 weeks. are they just not in a rush because its so soon? I know normally the Dr. wont see you for 8 weeks. I dont know. i guess im just concerned because should i start changing my habits right now?? this would be my first pregnancy im so confused!

Re: pregnant?

  • 1) It is normal to not have your first appoinment until then...mine isnt until I am 9 weeks.

    2) Yes...start changing your habits now.

  • a false positive is very very very rare, usually triggered by hormone injections. So unless your on fertility drugs I doubt you got a false positive. My doctor didn't see me until 8 weeks so you going in at 5-6 weeks is nice and sweet! Doctors trust HPTs now since they are so accurate. If you weren't planning this then the basics are limit your caffeine to two cups a day, take a prenatal vitamin, eat healthier and no alcohol.
  • Congrats!  False positives are pretty uncommon...the only thing that can make a test read positive is having the pregnancy hormone in your body.  Most OB's schedule the first about around 8 weeks, some even later, so it's normal for your app to be in early October.  It's even a little early!  Yes, you should start changing your habits and taking pre-natal vitamins asap!  GL for a H & H 9 months!

  • They're likely getting you in to confirm as early as possible.  I got the first available appt to confirm on Oct 12.  If you are doing anything that you know is dangerous - alcohol, smoking, drugs - then certainly stop those.  Are you taking prenatals - start if you are not.  There aren't too many concerns that apply this early.  A lot of women don't know until they are 6 weeks pregnant, so think of it that way.
  • Thank you everyone for the help!! I have been taking a Prenatal Vitamin now for over a year. this was planned, just not excepted to be sooooo soon! i just went off BC at the end of July. So it is a bit of a suprise. Thank you again for your help!
  • My OB didn't schedule me until about 13 weeks.  I did move it up, but I would suggest going to your general practicitioner.  That is what I did.  That way  they could recommend me a prenatal vitamin/ write me a prescription and give me the general information regarding my pregnancy until I went to the OB.  My general practictioner saw me the same day.
