DS had an appt with his gi dr on Friday. He told us to switch from enfamil ar to regular formula and add rice cereal. He said to do 1 tablespoon for every 2 ounces. he had us switch because ds was still spitting up on the AR and he's not gaining enough weight. He's in danger of falling of his growth curve and he dropped from 6th to 4th percentile. We're hoping to help him keep his formula down so he'll gain more weight. Only problem is that he is spitting up even more now. He has turned into a fountain...it's nonstop. He also seems to be gagging on it and the spit up is coming out of his nose, which it has never done before. I'm going to call the dr. tomorrow, but I was just wondering how much cereal some of you add to your lo's bottles...it's already pretty thick...I don't what else the dr could possibly have us do. We've tried everything. He also mentioned that he will probably want ds to start solids at 4 months. We were going to wait until 6 months, but if it will help ds, then we'll do it. Sorry for rambling...I'm just so frustrated right now:(
Re: cereal in bottle for reflux?
Our pedi had us add 1 tablespoon per four oz. But maybe she had us do less bc DS is not having weight gain issues.
Interestingly, sometimes too thick of rice cereal can cause reflux symptoms too. If I let the bottle sit too long after mixing it - it would get way too thick and DS would have even worse reflux.
i am having the same issue! dd was having reflux symptoms per doc (but i really think it was intestinal issues- so i really wanted an easier to digest formula instead of enfamil AR-
she was on enfamil prem lip
now on enfamil ar
and now she is vomiting chunks instead of the fountain spitup- she still spits up - it stopped it for a little bit but now its gotten to be juts as bad as it was
i am tired and dont know waht to do bc she is in pain- the stupid AR formula has also caused her to have constipation issues- so i am at a loss right now
