Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Would you please share?

I am being induced tomorrow due to pre-e.  I am getting a little nervous.  Can you please share any experiences with me?

Re: Would you please share?

  • If you Google "Bishop Score" it will give you some good info. Do you have any progress so far?

I was induced with DD#1 before I knew enough to know that I could choose to wait. I had no progress and ended up being in labor with pitocin for 36 hours. They should have never let me go that long. This was at 39 weeks because they thought DD was getting too big, and for no other reason medically. She was 8lbs 13oz. I may have ended up having to have a c-section anyway, but I wish I would have waited.

With DD#2 I was induced and did not want to be at all after my first experience, but I was having major BP issues and the doctor strongly recommended it. I was dilated to a 2 and 50% effaced so I did have some progress. That one went much better and was the total opposite of the first. I was very happy with the second one and was happy it went so well. They started the pit at 7 am and I had her by 4:30 pm after a few pushes.

  • You will be fine!  I was induced at 37 weeks due to Pre-e.  They broke my water at about 4 cm and had my little man within 12 hours from that time.  I got my epi around 6 cm and felt very little pain.  If you have any questions feel free to ask.

  • I was induced due to mild pre-e.

I got induced, and after an hour, my health went way down hill, causing me to be categorized into severe pre-e, so I was taken in for an emergency c/s. I got my spinal block, went numb, and within about 15-30 minutes, baby B was born. I was on magnesium sulfate to stop me from seizing, it made me feel like I was hit with a ton of bricks. I also had blood work done every 2 hours because I had low platelet levels, which got so low that I was on the verge of falling into HELLP syndrome. After baby B was born, I was in the hospital for 3 days, and recovered fine. We are both healthy.

I don't want to scare you by any means. I had a SEVERE case of pre-e, that's why my situation wasn't good. However, I have had many friends induced due to pre-e, and they had a normal, natural delivery.

    GL!!

  • I was induced due to my fluids started to decrease.  I was nervous too, but sooo excited.  It hurt...I won't lie about that, but I progressed pretty rapidly (4cm in an hour).  They started the pitocin at 2:30pm and by 11:42pm Brody was born.  I pray that your induction goes as smoothly and fast as mine did!

    Good Luck!

  • I was induced, I actually liked knowing that I would be able to go to the hospital without riding in a car while having contractions. So I walked in, signed in, answered a bunch of questions, signed a bunch of things (even though I was pre-registered) and then they got started. It went really well, all of my pain was managed as I requested pain meds. and my Dr. was on that day so she knew my preferences. My labor was about 9 hours long, the worst part was getting the epi. and once it was in, everything was fine. I ended up not needing pitocin, the cytotec they put in the night before got everything started for me. But just be clear in your head with what you want, don't let anyone talk you into or out of anything you aren't sure of. If you want pain meds, get them when you want them. If you don't want them, make sure you have your pain management and partner ready to go! Good luck!! You will feel great once that baby is out and in your arms :)

  • I c/p my birth story. Sorry it's long -- I'd edit but I'm one-handed at the moment:

I was hospitalized for PIH (Pregnancy Induced Hypertension), and my blood pressures had been absolutely crazy all over the place. My doctors wanted to wait until I was at least 37 weeks -- "full term" -- before induction. Initially I was under the impression that I would get checked Wednesday night and probably receive Cervadil to go ahead and get things going. Well, they were uber busy, so we got "bumped" even though I apparently wasn't scheduled to be in the labor and delivery section of the floor until 10:00 AM the next day.

I was a little disappointed when nothing happened that night. I just wanted to get things started. But I ended up getting woken up around 3 AM to see if I wanted to get things going now or wait until later. Afraid of possibly getting bumped again, I said yes to getting things going then. So we moved and at 4:30 AM I had Cervadil inserted.

Within 30 minutes I was having contractions. They were more painful than any other contractions I've had, but still manageable. By around 10 AM they were coming really close together and painful. I asked for a shot of something in my IV (it began with an F but I don't remember it).  It worked wonderfully and I was able to sleep for about an hour (when it runs out).  When it ran out, my contractions were about one on top of the other and much more painful than before. I asked for a second dose of the pain med and this time it didn't touch the pain at all.  Scared because of my BP and the pain, I elected to have an epidural.  It was a little iffy at first because the catheter needed to be readjusted so the medicine would flow to my right side; but in the end, I know it was the right decision for me. I could still feel my legs to move them with minimal help. I only had pain now in my butt with each contraction -- but this, too, soon dissipated.

I was checked around 1-ish, shortly after my epidural, and was found to be 5 cm dilated and 100% effaced -- the Cervadil was doing its job! Woohoo! About an hour later I was feeling some pressure, so they checked me again and I was only 6 cm and 0 station.  About 20 minutes after that I could feel baby's head moving and felt A LOT of pressure. They checked me again and sure enough I had only a small anterior 'lip' of cervix left, 100% effaced, and +2 station. Holy cow!

It got scary because baby's heart rate kept decelerating. They kept shoving me from one side to the other and even asked me to get up on all fours (this is when they checked and found out I was essentially ready to go). Everyone was astonished at the mobility and control I still had over my legs (I know, I'm an AW, LOL). I did some pushing in this position to coax back the cervix and the doc let me rest a little bit.  Then she was like, "Okay, let's flip over and have a baby!"

I could believe it was happening so quickly!! The room was filled with nurses and doctors (because of the heart rate scare). I got on my back and they pulled the end of the bed off and put up the stirrups and all that. The doc held my perineum down while I pushed; he was having some difficulty descending and soon realized why: he was sunny-side up.  They used the vacuum to help guide him down the birth canal. After about 15 minutes total of pushing, Anthony Michael came sailing into the world at 3:13 PM. I couldn't believe it!

He's a gorgeous 7 lb 4 oz baby, and 19 1/4" long.  We're trying to get him used to my scent and skin and get him to practice latching for breastfeeding. He has a little bit of a cone-head from the vacuum, but they say it'll go away in a day or two.  I don't care, he's the most gorgeous, handsome baby I have ever seen!!

Everything went sooo fast. No one expected the Cervadil to actually put me into labor (my nurse said that meant that I was probably going to go soon on my own anyway). I'm glad I didn't have to have pitocin, too. But boy were we shocked with how fast it all went!! Start at 4:30 AM and end with a baby at 3:13 PM! Less than 12 hours -- now how's that for a first kid?! Oh, and the doc said I had a very "adequate" pelvis and that if my next child is positioned correctly that s/he'd come flying out, too.

I only suffered a minor tear. She initially called it a 1st degree tear, but then said she had to call it 2nd degree because it was a little deep. But still, she said it wasn't bad at all.
